The French Learning Resource For Children Aged 0 – 6 Years
So, the time has finally arrived! Time, that is, for Ma Puce to go live!!
I’ve been thinking about creating a site like this ever since my daughter, who is referred to as ‘Ma Puce’ on this blog, was around 20 months old. Why? Because that’s when my mission to teach her French as a second language really started to take off. You can read all about Our Story to see why and how we got started on our non-native bilingual French journey.
The Ma Puce site is a resource for parents of children aged 0 – 6 years, who would like to teach them French as a second language. The main focus is on parents who don’t speak French as a native language, but of course native French speakers are very welcome too – in fact you might want to drop Ma Puce a line with some top tips!
Why teach your child to speak a second language?
So, why would you want your child to speak a second language? Well, having a second language – or more! – means having a very important asset. A second language such as French can help your child achieve great things educationally, open doors for them in the world of business and commerce and being bilingual also gives a child a broader outlook in a world that seems to shrink by the year, as modern technology brings us ever closer to the rest of the world.
But why would you want to start teaching your child a second language when they are so young? Because the best time to teach a child a second language is the same time they are learning their first one. If you think about it, it makes perfect sense. It’s second nature to babies, toddlers and small children to learn language. Language is what they need to do to make sense of their world.
Did you know that around 70% of the people in this world speak more than one language? That puts the majority of us Brits into, well, the minority, when it comes to language. I for one – and I know there are many others out there who share my view – believe it is time to tip the balance on this statistic.
Ma Puce is a growing French language learning resource
And that is where Ma Puce comes in. Take a look around the site and you will find information and news on bilingualism, guides to getting started teaching your child a second language, tips on how to start your own French singing group, tips on the best learning aides to help you on your mission.
The site is in its infancy at the moment, the aim is to keep it regularly updated with news, information and resources. Once we are up and running we also plan to create an online community forum, so that parents on a shared mission to teach their children French can support each other and share their stories and tips.
I hope you enjoy Ma Puce and keep coming back to visit us. You can of course keep in touch in all the usual ways – Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and by signing up to receive the Ma Puce Newsletter direct to your inbox.
I’d really value and appreciate any feedback you have on things you’d like to see on Ma Puce, things you think are really great and things you think could do with some tweaking.
This is the start of Ma Puce’s journey, why not make it the start of your journey to help your child learn French as a second language?!
